John Ward, 78 Died Suddenly On March 15th
John Ward, 78 year old carpenter, native, and lifelong resident of this city, died suddenly at 5:20 p.m. March 15 at his home here. Death apparently occured as a result of a heart attack, as he had worked at his trade that day and seemed well.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon at the Landess Chapel, Rev. James Marlar officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Landess Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were George Porter, Lloyd Miller, James Green, Paul Wilson, Arthur Gunter, and Roll Ricks.
John Ward was born in Campbell on Dec. 30, 1892, son of Robert K. Ward and Sarah Jane Scott Ward. He spent his entire life here and was one of the city's most respected citizens.
He served a number of years on the City Council during the 1920's when Campbell was making some of its greatest improvements....the sewerage system, the Municipal Light Plant, and the downtown paving. Mr. Ward again served on the Council in the years following World War II.
John Ward was a man of high principal and was universally known for his integrity.
He was married to Miss Cecil M. Toler at Piggott, Ark. on March 22, 1913.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cecil Ward of Campbell; one daughter, Mrs. John Gale (Wanda) of Caruthersville, Mo; three sons, Clois Ward and Aulden Ward of St. Louis, and Raymond Ward of Cahokia, Ill; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
