Julia was my grandmother and the only daughter of William J. Lindsey and Dortha Priscilla Campbell Lindsey. She had five brothers, Jacob, James Albert, Henry, Marshall, and Willie.
She married Jewell Conover Woodliff on May 21, 1921 in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas. Together they had seven children, Estelle, Lucille, Leneal, J. C., Eula Jo, John and George.
Julia was widowed at 35 years of age, when Jewel died of pneumonia. She was left with several small children to raise during the depression. Times were very rough. It is hard to imagine, but there were times when the family had very little food. She was a survivor and raised her children well.
I can still remember her biscuits and gravy. Her fried chicken was the best in the world.
One of her twin daughters, Leneal, never married and lived with her always. Sadly, Leneal died before Julia, leaving her with a broken heart. They are buried next to each other.
