Charles A. Brown, age 87 of Newton, Texas died on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at his residence.
Charles was born in San Augustine, Texas on June 10, 1921 and had lived in Newton most of his life.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran having participated in D-Day in the invasion of Normandy in 1944. Charles was a former mayor of Newton and was active in many civic activities in Newton. He was the owner of Newton Motor Company and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Belle Brown and his grand daughter, Esther Ruth Felty, his Mother and his brother, Covey Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna Brown of Newton, his daughters,Melyndia Ruth Brown Wilkinson and husband, Dale of Whitney, Texas and Peggy Louise Brown Felty and husband, Jim of Hico, Texas, step-children, Rob Hargis and wife, Connie of San Leon, Texas and Nancy Hargis of Dallas, Texas, sisters, Billie Jean Martin of Beaumont and Cecil Flournoy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, his grandchildren, Elizabeth McDaniel, Charles Wilkinson, Sara Belle Felty and Mailien Felty, step-grand-children, Cari Hargis, Robert Wells and Ashlee Mooney and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 2pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton.
Burial to follow at the Newton City Cemetery.
