Of Issaquah, Washington, the son of Helen M. and the late Edmond H. Haugen, departed this world in peace on April 17, 2005 at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington, near the home of his in-laws, Bob and Margaret Davis. His wife of 20 years, Beth, was at his side.
Born on September 23, 1937 in New York City, John was a great-great-grandchild of John A. Roebling, the builder of the Roebling Bridge that crosses the Ohio River at Cincinnati, as well as the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, and the second child of Edmond and Helen Haugen.
The family left New York and settled near Ann Arbor, Michigan, where John grew up. He attended Cranbrook, graduated from University High School in Michigan and Denison University in Ohio, and received his M.B.A. in 1964 from the University of Michigan.
He served in the Michigan National Guard.
John had been an investment advisor for 20 years, and was an accomplished photographer and Bonsai gardener.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth; mother, Helen M. Haugen, of California; brother and sister-in-law, Edmond and Esther Haugen, and their family, of Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Joseph Talbert, and their family, of California; in-laws, Robert and Margaret Davis; and brothers-in-law and their spouses, Richard and June Davis, and Tim and Jan Davis, and their families, all of Washington.
