He was a summer resident of Drummond Island from Columbus, Ohio. He and his wife were spending their first winter on Drummond following his retirement as a weatherman, when he died of heart trouble and a severe cold.

Funeral Tomorrow

Funeral services will be held tomorrow [27 February 1943] in Drummond, Mich., for John C. Fisher, 63, [sic; he was 56] U.S. weather forecaster here from January, 1937, until January, 1942, who died yesterday in Drummond. He had been living there since his retirement two months after leaving Columbus. Although he had been ill, his illness was a brief one and he was believed to have been recovering.

Born in Beirut, Syria, Mr. Fisher was the son of United States citizens [Mary Georgiana (Shaw) and Dr. John C. Fisher] temporarily living abroad where his father was a medical missionary in the Syrian Protestant College. He attended public schools in New York and California, and received his B. S. degree from Cornell University in 1909 [sic; 1922].

He was appointed assistant observer in the Weather Bureau in 1910. He served as assistant in Madison, Wis., Detroit, Mich., Ft. Smith, Ark., Washington, D.C., and Ithaca [and Syracuse], N. Y. He came to Columbus from Ithaca. In 1940 he served as the president of the Federal Business Association here.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Campbell Fisher; two sons, John Jr., graduate of Ohio State University and now connected with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Robert Fisher, with the Navy, and a sister, Miss Edith Fisher, 1755 King-av. [Columbus, Ohio]

2. Obituary / John C. Fisher (from the Sault Ste. Marie Evening News, 4 March 1943):

John C. Fisher, 56 years of age, died at his home on Drummond Island Thursday, Feb. 25, 1943, at 10:50 a. m. Heart trouble was given as the cause of death. He had been sufering [sic] from a severe cold and sore throat for a few days.

Mr. Fisher was born in Bierut [sic] Syria, where his father was a medical missionary. His parent's [sic] home was in Elmira, N. Y.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Campbell Fisher, and two sons, John C. III, of Boston, Mass., and Robert of U. S. Navy at Great Lakes training school, who was home on furlough at the time of his father's death.

One sister, Miss Edith Fisher of Columbus, also survives. Mr. Fisher retired last year as senior meteorologist and climatic section director for Ohio weather bureau, Columbus, Ohio.

Burial was on Saturday, Feb. 27 in Drummond cemetery, the Rev. Frank R. Mease of Pickford officiating.
