Lawrence Junior "Larry" Robert, age 79, of Kerrville TX, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, at his residence in Kerrville. He was born in Mt. Pleasant MI, on January 27, 1934, to Lawrence Edward Robert and Elizabeth Marie (Smillie) Robert. He married Donna Marie Ohms in 1954 in Isabella County, MI. In 1978, he married Karen Elizabeth (Darwin) Winkler in Lake Jackson, Brazoria County, Texas.

Larry grew up 3 miles north of Mt. Pleasant MI, on the Robert farm that has been in his family since 1882. His great, great, great grandfather, Francis Robert, emigrated from Alsace, France in 1832, traveled up the Erie Canal and settled in Amherst NY (north of Buffalo). His great, great grandfather, Nicholas Robert, stayed in New York and is buried there. Larry's great grandfather, Edward Christopher Robert, Sr. moved to Mt. Pleasant MI by covered wagon with his family in 1882 when Larry's grandfather, Edward Christopher Robert, Jr. was 2 years old. Larry's grandfather Edward Christopher Robert, Jr., his father Lawrence Edward Robert, and Larry were all raised on the Robert farm.

Larry graduated from Mt. Pleasant High school in Mt. Pleasant MI in 1951. He attended college for two years at Central Michigan University. He married Donna Marie Ohms, daughter of Rosie and Lon Ohms, in 1954 and they were divorced. They had 3 children from this marriage: Lawrence Dale "Dale" Robert, Daniel James Robert, and Kayetta Lynn Robert. In 1978, Larry married Karen Elizabeth (Darwin) Winkler. Karen had three children from her first marriage to Edward Robert Winkler: Jeffrey Craig Winkler, Scot Andrew Winkler, and Michele Lynn (Winkler) Arnold.

Larry began his career with The Dow Chemical Company in 1952 in the Engineering Department in Midland MI. In early to mid-1960, Larry was transferred to the Rocky Flats site in Golden CO where he worked and lived for 3 years. While working back in Midland MI Larry managed the Engineering and Construction Department (E&CS). In 1977 Larry was transferred to Freeport TX where he managed E&CS construction projects across the U.S. In 1978 he worked on a project in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, where they lived for a year. He retired the first time in 1985 on a Friday, and on Monday, he was back at work doing the same construction management job he had been doing for Dow, but as a consultant for his own consulting company, L&K, Inc. He retired the second time in 1992 when Karen retired. After retirement, Larry and Karen spent five years full-timing in their RV looking for "the perfect place to retire". This five year search eventually led them back to Texas and to Kerrville. Before retiring and moving to Kerrville in 1998, Larry and Karen had lived in Lake Jackson TX.

Larry and Karen have been blessed to return to the Robert farm in Mt. Pleasant, during the summers for the last 20 years. Larry also loved Lake Tahoe and took his family there every spring break vacation for 30 consecutive years.

Larry has always loved to renovate homes and build things. He helped build the sanctuary at Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Kerrville, TX. He also helped build a large expansion on Leaton United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, MI., a great room for his niece Cindy and her husband Dave, as well as a home for one their close friends in Michigan. Larry has his pilot's license and used to love to fly. He and Karen have volunteered and helped build numerous Habitat for Humanity homes in Mt. Pleasant MI and in Freeport TX. Larry always had a gypsy spirit and loved to travel. In the last 15 years, he became interested in genealogy and has done a lot of research on his and Karen's families. He was also a volunteer for FindAGrave.com and has helped take about 5,600 photos of cemetery tombstones that have been put on the website. Larry loved his Life Group and both his church families at Southern Oaks Baptist Church in TX and at Leaton United Methodist Church in MI and spending time with his Christian brothers and sisters. He will be greatly missed at the Friday night dinner and Euchre games with dear friends Betty and Bob Welsh. What he loved most was spending time with his children and his 5 granddaughters.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; son Lawrence Dale "Dale" Robert; and granddaughter Camille Hope Arnold.

Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Robert, of Kerrville TX; his children Kayetta Lynn Robert of Biloxi MS, Daniel James Robert of Cleveland TX, Michele Lynn (Winkler) Arnold (Jonathan Arnold) of Issaquah WA, Jeffrey Craig Winkler (Linda Comphel Winkler) of Brentwood CA, and Scot Andrew Winkler (Julie Johnson Winkler) of Livermore CA. Pleasant MI; brothers-in-law Keith Darwin (Heather Swaim Darwin) of Ferrisburgh VT, Kenny Darwin (and Debbie Gilmore) of East Lansing MI; and sisters-in-law Kathy Darwin Jackson (Vic Jackson) of Lone Pine CA., and Sandy (Borr) Darwin of East Lansing MI.
