Elizabeth Shindel (Goshert) Ely, d/o Henry S. and Louisa A. (Shindel) Goshert, was the wife of Anthony S. Ely. They were the parents of 5 daughters, Margaret "Maggie," Anna "Annie," Charlotte "Lottie," Emma "Emmie" and Mary "Mame." Besides being a wife, mother and homemaker, she was a beacon of mercy in her community, beloved by the townsfolk of Lebanon. [NGL]

DEATH OF MRS. A. A. ELY
This morning the family, as well as a large circle of friends, were painfully surprised on the receipt of a telegraph dispatch from Mrs. Elizabeth Hutter, of Philadelphia, announcing the death of Mrs. Anthony S. Ely. The deceased was visitng in Philadelphia for the past several weeks and had been quite indisposed, but her condition was not deemed serious, as only yesterday the family was informed of her illness and promised that if her case became more serious the children would be informed thereof. The dispatch stated that the direct cause of her death was failure of the heart's action. The deceased was a lady well and favorably known in our midst, of a genial and frank disposition, had a heart that beat responsive to the appeals of the poor, and in charitable work she was ever ready to give a helping hand. At the time of her death she was a member of the Board of Managers of the Widows' Home, of North 10th Street, in the success of which institution she on all occasions manifested a deep interest. She became a widow in 1875, and leaves behind her five daughters to mourn her death--Mrs. Edward Marshall, of Annville; Mrs. William Fisher, Mrs. Bernhard Robinson, Annie and Emma.
Gen. J. P. S. Gobin left this morning on the 10:20 train for Philadelphia to make the proper arrangements for bringing home the body. [Lebanon Daily News]
