Thelma Irene Kaufman, age 85 of Mechanicsburg, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.

Born September 3, 1924 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Esther (Miller) Romberger.

For many years Thelma was a foster mother to children in need and later worked with the Office of Aging, providing a home for senior citizens and then retired as a Home Health Aide for Messiah Village. She was a member of West Shore Brethren in Christ Church and has been a member of the painting class at Bethany Village since 2000.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley W. "Doc" Kaufman and her brothers Chester and Marlin Romberger.

Surviving are three sons, John of Carlisle, Robert of Williamsport, Richard of Shermansdale, three daughters, Denise Dennis and Debra Kaufman both of Mechanicsburg, Donna Hanley of Carlisle, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a sister Alverta Cunnard of Dillsburg.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday in her church with Pastor Bob Verno officiating. There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg and at the church from 12:00 Noon Thursday.
