Mamie Belle Duffy, 93, of Salem, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Richfield Nursing Center. She was the daughter of the late William C. Duffy and Annie Jones Duffy. Miss Duffy retired from the Baptist Book Store after twenty five years of service. She was an active participant in the Sunday School Department of Salem Baptist Church for many years and later was a member of West Salem Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Miss Duffy was preceded in death by two brothers, George Chapman Duffy and Baxter Turner Duffy. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ann H. Duffy; niece, Carla D. Wyllie and husband, Steve; nephews, Douglas C. Duffy and wife, Nancy and Baxter E. Duffy and wife, Donna Lee; great-nieces, Hannah Santiago and husband, Michael, Lauren Duffy and Sarah Duffy; great-nephews, Robert Wyllie, Paul Duffy and Turner Duffy. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, with Pastor Ken Nienke officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to a charity of your choice.
