Orill L. Spiess, 82, Madison Apartments died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the Fort Madison Community Hospital. Death terminated a lingering illness.
Mr. Spiess was born March 31, 1896, at Marceline, Mo. He was a retired employee of the Sheaffer Pen Co. with 30 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church. A veteran of World War I, he was a past commander of Fort Madison Post 82 of the American Legion here.
On Aug. 31, 1920, at Akron, Ohio, he married Carolyn Auge, who survives.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Dr. John Spiess, Sylvania, Ohio; two brothers, Charles Spiess, who lives in Missouri, and Byron Spiess, Little Mountain, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Myrl) Hamner, Melbourne, Fla., Mrs. Naomi Axsom, Brookfield, Mo., and Mrs. Mary Kuntz, Fort Madison; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. His parents were Charles A and Nannie Doss Spiess.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart church. The Rev. Joseph P. Hines officiated. Burial was in Soldiers' Circle of Oakland cemetery.
The body was at the King-Lynk Funeral Home where friends called after 2 Thursday afternoon and where the rosary was recited at 7:30 Thursday evening.
