Paul was born in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from Soldan High School.
He was in sales from a very early age and would eventually form Schneider Brothers Millinery in 1923 along with brothers Ben Schneider and Sam Schneider. The business would close its doors after 75 years of operation. The business weathered the economic storm of the depression and thrived during the fashion days of popular women's hats.
Paul was active at Shaare Emeth Congregation (St. Louis, Missouri) in the Temple brotherhood and was also involved in the Chautaugua Society. He loved crossword puzzles and would complete the local paper's puzzle each day until his poor eyesight prevented it. His favorite pastime was frequenting the St. Louis restaurants with his family. Paul played the piano. If there was a piano on the premises, he would invariably find an opening to take the "keys" during the musicians' break and play his favorite melodies.
Collier's Magazine had a fashion article in 1953 and featured Schneider Brothers Millinery. Each of the brothers (Paul, Ben, and Sam) were shown modeling the special ladies' Easter hats for that season.
One of Paul's special moments in life was in 1996. Paul and his brother Sam Schneider were the subject of a St. Louis NBC TV affiliate station spring feature in which the brothers tried on some of the ladies Easter hats they were offering through their Schneider Brothers Millinery business. This "cute" feature made its way to one of the producers of the Jay Leno TONIGHT SHOW. They were invited to make a guest appearance on the show on October 2, 1996 (see photo). This national celebrity appearance was one of the highlights of their lives. At the time, Sam was 94 and Paul was 90. Paul is in the center of the 4th photo.
Paul loved playing the piano (see the photo) and he would often seek out the local piano at a bar or restaurant where he and Dorothy would visit on a weekend.
Paul was married to Dorothy Henochsberg of Memphis for over 63 years. They were married November 26, 1933. Paul passed away March 15, 2006 at the age of 99.
Paul was a 32nd Degree Mason
