Sgt. Bryce D. Howard of of Vancouver, Wash., graduated from Battle Ground High School in 2001. Later that year he met his future wife and they married in December 2001. Bryce was a snowboard and motorcycle enthusiast. He joined the Army in 2002 and served as a technical engineer in Korea before being deployed to Iraq and planned to pursue a career as a surveyor when he left the Army. His military education included Basic Combat Training in 2002, the Technical Engineer Qualification Course in 2002, Warrior Leaders Course in 2004, and Combat Lifesaver Course in 2003. He received several awards and decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the NATO medal. He was posthumously promoted to his current rank from his previous rank of Corporal. He was 24.
