Joseph Merle Prince, 73, passed away August 29, 2007 in Panguitch. He was born August 25, 1934 in Panguitch to Joseph Rulon and Fay Ella Cameron Prince .
He married Pauline Sevy, August 12, 1955 in Baumbholder, Germany while stationed on active duty with the Army. The marriage was solemnized in the Bern Switzerland Temple.
Merle worked for the US Forsest Service for most of his life.
He was active in promoting progress in Panguitch as the City Economic Developer. Some of the projects were the airport, the industrial park and the Paunsaugant Wildlife Museum. He served as the secretary for the West Panguitch Irrigation Company, was a member of the American Legion and Kiwanis Club.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many capacities; including twice as a bishop. Served with his wife Pauline as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple and as missionaries in Oregon.
His survivors include his wife, Pauline of Panguitch; children, Paula(Carl) Curtis of Bejing, China, Merlene (Tim) Lanier of Pleasant View, CO, Jolene (Dave) Irving of Houston, TX, Frank (Denise Layne) Prince of Logan, UT, Ryan (America Shrout) Prince of St. George, UT; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ella Sudweeks of Circleville, Rulla Fay (Garry) Porter of Central Valley, UT; sister-in-law, Kay Prince of Bountiful. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joseph Hunter Prince; brother, Howard Kay Prince; brother-in-law, Reid Sudweeks.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Panguitch 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 200 North 400 East. Burial will be in the Panguitch Cemetery with Military Rites by the Panguitch American Legion Post
