Mrs. Ellen Maria Couch, 87, died at the home of her son, O.D. Couch, Jr.,Sept. 28 (1935), at 2:30 a.m. Funeral services were held at 2:00 at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ben H. Moore of Brownwood, officiating. Interment was in Zephyr cemetery.
Mrs. Couch was born July 5, 1848, at Chester, New Hampshire. She was married to O.D. Couch, Sr., June 14,1869. They came to Texas 57 years ago and settled at Dallas. The family moved to Zephyr in 1901 and have
made there home since.
Mrs. Couch was one of the loyal and faithful members of the Presbyterian church. She was well born, gently reared, and carefully educated. She was endowed with a strong mind and dignity and grace of manner, yet these many advantages never served to keep her aloof from the trials and struggles and sorrows of her fellow pilgrims in the long journey of life. How true when applied to Mrs. Couch are the words of the Scripture, when the virtuous woman is described. "The law of kindness was in her tongue. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor, yes, she
reacheth forth her hands to the needy. The community has suffered a great loss in the passing of this good and noble woman.
Mrs. Couch is survived by her husband, three sons, O.D. Couch, Jr., Zephyr; E.C. Couch, Brownwood, and J.E. Couch, Zephyr, and one daughter, Mrs. E.E. Stoker of Dallas. Other relatives include 18 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Among the out-of-county people at the funeral were: Mrs. E.E. Stoker, Mrs Paul Kirk, Mrs. Arthur Hegstrom, Mrs. Sam Layman and Mrs. Will Weston and little daughter, Gloria Ann, all of Dallas; Mrs. H.L. Cannon, Mrs.J.E. Goodnight, Mrs. C.A. Williams, Mrs. Loyd Yarbrough and Melvin Williams of Ft. Worth.
