| Birth: | Feb. 7, 1863 Franklin (Hunterdon County) Hunterdon County New Jersey, USA | | Death: | Mar. 26, 1920 Trenton Mercer County New Jersey, USA | Anna was the eighth of ten children of William Wharton Hampton, a farmer, and Susannah Baldwin Hampton.
Perhaps she was named after her mother's sister, Rebecca C. Baldwin Abbott.
Anna worked on a farm before her marriage.
She wed Jeremy Mathews Burroughs on Sep. 28, 1881 in Quakertown (Franklin Twp.). They had four children: Anna Mariah 'Rita' in 1887, Leon Abbott in 1890, Russell Hampton in 1894, and Clarence about 1896. Clarence didn't survive.
When the couple separated, Anna made her living as a housekeeper. The children grew up in the homes of various relatives.
Anna passed along the deep set 'Hampton eyes' to her daughter and to her grandsons Harry and Frank. It is hard to decide whether she looks sad or angry in the photo. She had a very difficult marriage, so either emotion would be appropriate.
She died of pneumonia at Mercer Hospital. She had 11 grandchildren and 134 additional descendants as of early 2008.
