*Chico Daily Enterprise, Saturday evening, November 7, 1891: "Died: Brown -- In Chico, November 6, 1891, Mrs. Louisa Brown, aged 44 years. [The funeral will take place from the residence of Mrs. Wertsbaugher, corner of Wall and Fourth streets, at 10 o'clock A.M. Sunday, November 8th. Interment in the Durham cemetery]"

*Samuel Neal, California Pioneer, And a Brief History of the Durham Family, by Edna Reynolds Durham, ca. 1952: [abstracted, Ed.] (pg 65); "Widow of George W., later married a man by the name of Mr. Brown. Was an invalid in her later years, and taken care of by Mrs. Holland during her last illness ... She died at the age of 44 years. She did not wish to be buried under the earth so a pretentious tomb was built for her above ground. It does not bear the name of Brown, but stands beside the grave of George and bears the inscription ..." [as noted].

*From Other Sources: Born in Missouri, aged 44 years at time of death. Listed as white, married; buried under the name Louise B. Durham, although married to Mr. Brown.

*Editor's Note: The mausoleum surrounding the grave of Louisa Durham is dated 1901, the marble front seal 1893(*) even though she died earlier, 6 Nov 1891. The formerly gated southwest corner was permanently blocked when the mausoleum was constructed. The west side of the cast iron fencing was removed to provide access to the gravesite. The picture below shows the original gate and inscription, which has since disappeared.

Daughter of Louis Baker born in Virgina and Ann Davis born in Virgina. Her siblings were Edwin Baker, Joseph Baker and Emma Baker VanNess. Lou's mother Ann came to Butte County with her children after the death of Louis Baker.
