In 1917 Nason French Conaway resided in Harrisville, West Virginia where he was Deputy Sheriff of Ritchie County.
On 25 March 1918 he was married to Bertha Ellen Westfall of Harrisville, Ritchie County.
He became a member of the 119th Infantry, 90th Division that was activated August 1917 and overseas June 1918. It's Major Operations were St. Mihiel and MeuseArgonne. Nason French was killed in the Battle of the Argonne Forest, the last major offensive of WWI.
