Thyra Conaway was the daughter of Joshua Baines Conaway and Helen Virginia (Wilson) Conaway. She graduated from Pullman High School, Ritchie County, West Virginia, in 1922. She received her teaching certificate at Salem College in Fairmont, West Virginia and taught school in Ritchie County. She married Lawrence J. Null on 29 June 1924.

Later she moved to Dawes County, Nebraska. She married M. M. Neusbaum on February 7, 1934 in Fall River County, South Dakota. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Crawford, Nebraska and taught Sunday School. She moved with her husband to Casper, Wyoming in 1966. April of 1994 she moved from Casper to Sioux City, Iowa.
