Jack Augustus Lanier, 74, of the Leefield Community, entered into rest on May 15, 2009 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. He was born in Screven County to his late parents, J. Felton and Leona Lee Lanier, and moved to Bulloch County shortly thereafter.
He was a 1952 graduate of Brooklet High School and then of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. After his 3 year tour of duty in Japan with the US Army, Mr. Lanier returned to his family farm in which he retired in 2006. He was a charter member of the Leefield Volunteer Fire Department and remained active as long as his health allowed. He was a member of the Leefield Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Geraldine Fordham Lanier; his two daughters and their husbands, Pat and Larry Jones and Bonnie and Mike Rushing; his two grandsons, Chad Michael Rushing and Travis Jack Rushing. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Frances R. Lanier, wife of deceased brother Thomas F. Lanier. Mr. Lanier is survived locally by his cousins, Virginia "Ginny" Jones and Franklin Lee. Also surviving is his longtime friend and employee and his wife Winton and Dorothy Wells.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Henry McMichael officiating.
Burial will be at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his nephews: David Gerrald, Terry Gerrald, Richard Griner, Andy Fordham, Ronnie Carrassco, and Lucky Hiers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be past and present members of the Leefield Volunteer Fire Department, members of all Bulloch County Fire Departments, Brian and Dina Diefenbach, Kenneth Knight, Lee Cromley, Charlie Cromley, Faye Ruarks, Chad Wiggins, Dudley Bradley,Jr., Dewayne and Terri Starling, Lloyd Shurling, Jody Shuman, Greg Sikes, Eddie Coleman, Charles Conner, Donald Joiner, Billy Clifton, Mike Anderson, Chuck Ellis and Mark Hynco.
Remembrances may be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459; the Leefield Baptist Church 5294 Brooklet- Leefield Road, Brooklet, Ga. 30415 or the church of donor's choice.
