Spec Daniel LaVerne Sesker
Birth: Apr. 15, 1983
Boone
Boone County
Iowa, USA
Death: Apr. 6, 2006, Iraq

Spc. Daniel L. Sesker of Ogden, Iowa had recently discovered his fiance was pregnant and was hoping to leave Iraq as early as this year to meet his newborn. He graduated from Ogden High School in 2001, and attended college at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. He was a police officer in Gowrie before being deployed. He was deployed to Kosovo in 2003 as part of Operation Joint Guardian. In July 2005, he was originally a member of Troop B, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry, and volunteered to be attached to Troop C, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry in LeMars for Operation Iraqi Freedom, a news release said. In Iraq, he served as a gunner in the Task Force 49th Military Police Battalion Personnel Security Detachment. Between the Kosovo and Iraq tours of duty, Sesker worked as a counselor at the Woodward Academy. At the time of his death, Dan was serving on the same base in Iraq as three Ogden High School classmates, Sgt. David Bollenbaugh, Spc. Shane Sinn and Spc. Michael Fraser. Some of the things Dan enjoyed doing and is remembered for are his love of a good game of pool; he really liked bowling, hunting, fishing and most of all he loved living life. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action Badge. Dan is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mysty and Marvin; father, Dennis, fiancée Angelique; brother and sister-in-law PFC. Thomas and Sara; sister Jennifer, stepsister Amie and stepbrother Brian; grandparents Jean, and Bud and Diane. He was preceded in death by grandparents Stanley and Violet Sesker. He was 22.
