Ruth Williams was born in Mentz, Cayuga Co., NY, 5 March 1808. She married James Crawford in Mentz, Cayuga Co.,NY, 4 NOv 1822. They lived several years in Goveneur, St Lawrence Co., NY, then emigrated to Ohio, stopping briefly in Cleveland, then to Mantua, Portage Co., Ohio, back to Cleveland, and then settling in Mantua Station.
Ruth and her husband had twelve children, all but one of whom survived to adulthood.(Obituary) This child may have been their first-born child, Amos W. CRAWFORD. (Later information from a descendant of Levi CRAWFORD (Gary L. YOUNGS, of Glendale, AZ in Jan 2003) has information that Amos W. CRAWFORD "went to Sea and was never heard from again.")Ruth was associated with the Baptist Church throughout her life.
She died Sunday A.M., 14 April 1889 in Mantua Station, Portage Co., Ohio, at the age of 81.
Her obituary, in the flowery speech of the time stated: " For several years she has been kindly cared for with great filial affection by her children, who have tenderly watched the tottering steps and failing strength of her declining years, until an earth-life of more than four score years were numbered, snd she was ready for the Great Reaper who comes for all." Ruth's obituary did not name her parents, her children, nor did it name her survivors. Her funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Miller, in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, 16 April 1889.
