Note:
My grandfather, Godfrey Baccus, was born May 2, 1812, in Kentucky, and his wife was Minerva Mills Alcorn, also a Kentucky native. My grandfather, along with his brother, Peter Baccus (who was named after his antecedent), and his father, Jacob Baccus, were a part of the original 42 families of settlers who came to the Republic of Texas to settle it because of an unprecedented act of Congress which occurred in February of 1841. All of these pioneers became a part of "Peters Colony" (so named because of one of the men who orchestrated the idea which was born in a music store in Louisville, Kentucky).
Godfrey Baccus was married to Minerva Mills Alcorn and it was her second marriage. She had two children from her first marriage who had been born in Kentucky. My grandfather helped raise those children, and they had one son together, John A. Baccus, born in 1835. My grandfather had a "mulatto" woman named Ellen living in his household as a servant, who bore him a son, Patrick Henry Baccus, born in 1858." - Sandra Baccus-message sent thru Ancestry connection service
