Services at Sandhill Veterans Cemetery, Fayetteville, NC January 27 2005 Andrew J. Dudek Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class, 73, of 7136 Ashwood Circle, Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Womack Army Medical Center Fort Bragg. SFC Dudek retired from the Army after 26 and 1/2 years of service. Services: Graveside with full military honors, 10 a.m. Friday in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. Survivors include his wife, Alka B. Dudek; a daughter, Patricia Anne Frizzell, Newport News, Va.; a grandson, Trey Frizzell, Newport News, Va.; four brothers, Frank Dudek of Tampa, Fla., John (Blanche) Dudek of Greensburg, Ben (Elsie) Dudek of Kittanning and William (Mary Ann) Dudek of Natrona Heights; three sisters, Dorothy Nally of Flushing, NY, Frances (Jim) Faiola of Monroeville and Judy (George) Seaton of Scottsdale, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. Born April 2, 1931, in Moween, Indiana County, PA, he attended Leechburg High School. He obtained GED while serving in the US Army, 4 year degree in Business Admin from Fayetteville State University. He joined the US Army October, 1946. He retired after 26 1/2 years of military service. He served in US Army Engineers, Ft. Bealvour, VA, Germany. He was in the Korean War remaining in country for one year in US Army Occupation. Completed Airborne Jump School at Ft. Campbell, KY. Upon completion he was assigned to 11th Airborne in Germany. He returned to 82nd Abn, Ft. Bragg, NC in 1955 and entered Special Forces Training Group in 1960. Served with 1st Special Forces Group Abn, Okinawa in 1964. Upon returning served with 3rd SFG Abn at Ft. Bragg and Vietnam. Last tour of duty was 5th SFG in Vietnam and retired January 31, 1972. His awards and decorations include: Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Master Parachute Badge, Bronze Star Medal and Bronze Star Medal (V), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation & Chinese Jump Wings.
