William Wood, born in Randolph County, North Carolina, the son of John Wood.
William was in love with Peninah Walker, daughter of Samuel Walker. William came to Christian County, Kentucky along with the family of Thomas Fruit and Samuel Underwood. They settled on the Tradewater River, near Palestine Church in North Christian County.
On April 5, 1910, William and Peninah, both 21 years of age, were married in Christian County, KY.
Soon after marriage, they moved to Illinois, which was then only a territory. They remained only a short time due to the hostility of the Indians which compelled them to seek safety elsewhere.
They accordingly returned to Christian County and made a settlement in the Northern part of the county near the present day village of Crofton.
In later years, they settled near Cerulean Springs where they remained until their death.
There were 13 children born to this union; John, was born in Illinois, Elizabeth Ann, Wilebour, Enoch Pugh, Sibyl Fruit, Mary Ann, Henrietta, William Riley (assassinated in the time of the war), Manderson Davis (died in infancy), Leander Madison (died in infancy), Willis Franklin, Branson Webber (died in infancy) and Orlando Gale.
William's fathers home place in Randolph County was never to be sold. William was the only Wood who came to Christian County, KY.

If you have a copy of this document, I encourage you to reread the 5th & 6th generation. The punctuation, or lack thereof, is what had lead to this misinformation.
I quote: "John Wood the 3rd was Captain in Revolutionary War. His children John b 1781 Isaac m Nancy _ Clem from his Grandmother Clement Wm Wood born Aug 6, 1789
Wm moved from Randolph County North Carolina ...."
