I did have this information before, but did not have it handy when I posted her memorial and went with the dates and age references on death certificate and obituary. Melvinia is the daughter of Jane Lucy McDOWELL of our Elizabeth Ouzts McDowell Line of the family of Elizabeth HARLING and George Peter Ouzts I of Edgefield Co., SC. She was not born in 1870, she was born on 5 Jan 1878 in Hartwell, Hart Co., GA.
It appears that the "Informant" for her DC, her son, Jim Gilliam did not know when his mother was born, or how old she really was.
Her father was b. 12 Oct 1853 and was not married 19 July 1870 when the 1870 Hart Co., Census was taken. He and Jane McDowell did not marry until 13 Feb 1871, and they would have two children before Melvinia, Jones Tolbert, b. 1 Dec 1872 and Louanna b. 1874.
As you can see it is not possible that Melvinia was b. 1870.
