Omaha's traffic toll jumped two Monday night and early this morning, making three auto fatalities in the last five days after the record had been kept clear for 80 days. There have been 22 deaths so far this year.

The dead:

Leonard R. Beerman, 41, unemployed, Carlton hotel, killed when the car he was driving at 2:20 a.m. plowed plowed through an Elmwood park flower bed from Sixtieth and Leavenworth streets, then flew a hundred feet through the air......

Beerman was injured fatally early this morning when a coach bearing him, two other men and a woman failed to negotiate a turn on the edge of Elmwood park and turned over in a ravine.

Omaha's 22nd Traffic Fatality This Year

OMAHA (AP). Two automobile deaths late Monday night and early Tuesday, brought to 22 the traffic fatality toll for Omaha this year.

L. R. Beerman, 41, Omaha, unemployed, was killed in an automobile which plunged 280 feet into an Elmwood park ravine. The car jumped a curb, plowed through a circular flower bed, flew thru the air, clipping off tree branches on the slope as far as 16 feet above the ground, rolled over several times and dropped into the ravine.

Police found the speedometer stuck at 60 miles an hour. Riding in the car were Orve Van Winkle, 38, Mrs. Esther West, 26, and Fred Batman, all of Omaha. Mrs. West suffered a sprained back and possible skull injuries, Van Winkle and Batman cuts and bruises.

Funeral services for Leonard R. Beerman, 40, resident of the Carlton hotel, who was killed Monday night in an accident at Elmwood park, will be held Thursday morning at 8:30 from the Heafey & Heafey mortuary to St. Magdalene church at 9. Burial: Holy Sepulchre cemetery.

He was survived by two uncles: August Heithoff of Carroll, IA, and Ben Beerman of Chicago, IL; and a brother-in-law, Max Seidl of Omaha.
