Cody was my "Baby Dog". I've had him since he was four weeks old. His mother was my mother's dog, Tasha. He was a pic-a-poo. On 2/21/07, I finally made the decision to bring him to his vet after many months of not wanting to go because I knew what the doctor was going to tell me. Cody had pretty much lost his sight and hearing about two years ago. He had not been the same hyper, energetic dog for about a couple of years also. His vet was always amazed at how well Cody was doing the past several years. Cody would show us how he could "fly in the air", as we called it. He would jump from one chair to another chair, it seemed through the air. He had this thing against someone on a bicycle, he would go crazy barking at them. When he got older and could not see well, I think he just heard the sound and went crazy barking.
Cody has been with me for almost 18 years, he would have been 18 next month. He and my niece, Magen, Melissa's daughter, were born at the same time. He loved my family very much but when my son, Jamey, would hug or kiss me with Cody on my lap, Cody did not like that at all. He didn't like any adult males getting close to me. But that was alright because Cody was my Baby Dog. Any time I said "Baby Dog", he just freaked out and jumped on me, no matter what he doing.
It will be hard getting used to Cody not being around, he was always in my feet or my lap. These past few months have been hard watching him and knowing what I had to do. But his quality of life had not been good for a while so I knew it was time. Like his vet, Dr. Joubert, told me, after 18 years in good health, he lived a very good life.
Good bye Baby Dog! I will always love you, it will just be hard to get used to you not around. I know you are resting peacefully now.
