Alfred "Red" Smith, 65, of Van Buren, formerly of Jenny Lind, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in a Van Buren hospital. He was the retired owner of Fort Smith Forklift Service and was an Army veteran. He was a Baptist, a 32nd degree Mason and member of Jenny Lind Lodge No. 503 F&AM, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and Amrita Grotto of Fort Smith. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0031 of Fort Smith, the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Fort Smith Aerie No. 208, and a former Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Sebastian County.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel of Greenwood with burial at Lovelace Cemetery in Witcherville.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; three daughters, Debbie Brown of Lakewood, Colo., Amy Smith of Fort Smith and Carlene Russell of Cedarville; four sisters, Dorothy Phillips and Inis Taylor, both of Jenny Lind, Dean Kerr of Rye Hill and Margaret Cook of Greenwood; five brothers, Alvin W. Smith of Barber, Elmer Lee Smith of Jenny Lind, Dutch Smith of Greenwood, Jim Smith of Fort Smith and Marion L. Smith of Fayetteville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Danny and Troy Smith, Daniel and Virgil Taylor, and Carl and Nelson Nichols.
