Mary Ann Higbee Deal, 81, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 14, 2008 in Federal Way, Washington.

Mary Ann was born July 11, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clifford Ernest Higbee and Doris Odekirk. She graduated from East High School in the class of 1944 at age 16 and immediately began working at Hill Field for the Army Air Corps. Later she moved for a period to Reno, Nevada where she worked for the Internal Revenue Service. Upon her return to Salt Lake City she worked at the Veterans Hospital. Mary Ann was married for more than 50 years to her loving husband, James Edward Deal. They were married on July 30, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah. That marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. For more than 30 years, while husband Jim was in the Air Force, they traveled the nation and many parts of the world. Homes included California, Nevada, Idaho, Texas, Utah, Nebraska, Alabama, and England several times. Mary Ann found friends and lifetime acquaintances in every place she went. She loved museums and cultural events, the opera, the symphony, and anything that uplifted the spirit. They have lived in the Auburn/Federal Way Washington area for nearly 19 years following her husband's retirement from the Air Force. Mary Ann had a great zest for life and adventure. Most of all, she loved her family and friends. She was so interested, and found so much joy, in the life events of others. Hardly a birthday, a wedding, a shower, or any other special event went by unnoticed. She could not have been more proud of her grandchildren. Mary Ann was a wonderful cook and a remarkable homemaker. As she aged, husband Jim had taken on many of these duties. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had great faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ and a great testimony of the Gospel. For her kindness, her caring, her giving, she will always be remembered and sorely missed.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, James of Auburn, Washington; her son Michael (Kyle Marie), Santa Clara, Utah; her daughter Marianne Yule, Midvale, Utah; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Spencer, Matthew and Tanner Deal; Emma, Heather and Calum Yule; two brothers, Clifford (Doris) Higbee, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Jack (Helen) Higbee, also of Salt Lake City; and many wonderful nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her sisters Frances, Marjorie and Doris Jean.

Friends may call at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary in Sandy, Utah on Sunday evening, 21 September from 6-8 p.m. and at the Union Park Second Ward Chapel at 700 East and 7500 South, Midvale, Utah from 12-1 p.m. on Monday, 22 September. The Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in that Chapel.
Interment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, Sandy, Utah.
