Capt. Adam S. Davis was born in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, the son of Sanford Davis and his wife, Ann "Nancy" Smithson.

Adam's father, Sandford Davis (1755-1801), was the son of Arthur Davis (1729-1807) and his wife, Bathsheba Sanford.

Arthur Davis (1727-1807) was the son of Thomas Davis and his wife, Ann Pendleton.

Adam's mother, Ann "Nancy" Smithson, was the daughter of John Smithson (1727-1808) and his wife, Dorothy "Dolly" Sawyer.

John Smithson (1727-1808) was the son of Capt. Thomas Smithson of England and his wife, "Turkish Ann", the Greek slave girl.

Adam married Martha Penelope Sykes, daughter of Joshua Sykes and his wife, Margaret Wood.

•Sanford Davis (1817-1867)- married Elizabeth Nichols.

•Margaret Elizabeth Davis (born 1819)- married Joseph Jackson, they moved to Indiana.

•Cordelia Davis (born 1820)- married Charles Relfe.

•Penelope Davis (1823-1830)- died young.

•Warren Davis (born 1825)- married Rebecca Jane McCaughey.

•Nancy Davis (1828-1870)- married Levi Harris.

•Joshua Davis (1831-1886) - married 1st to Lavania Davis, married 2nd to Eliza Ann Simpson, married 3rd to Margaret Scott.

•Adam Davis (1832- bef.1863)- married Mariah Seeley.

•Edmond Davis (1835-1926)- married Minerva Jennings.

•Martha "Patsy" Davis (1837-1908)- married Pritchard Harris.

•Sykes Davis (1839-1905)- married first to Mary Wood, married 2nd to Susan Perry Pritchard.



Adam died in Perquimans County, North Carolina in 1846. His death was reported on December 15, 1846 when John White went to the courthouse in Perquimans Co. and stated that Adam S. Davis had died. He requested that he be made Special Administrator of his estate.

If Adam Davis had a grave-marker it was most likely a wooden marker, which cannot be found --it has most likely deteriorated over time.
