A graduate of Central High School and a motorcycle enthusiast.
Cullie Mitchell Denney, age 21, was at a party with his friends. Unfortunately, there was a mixture of alcohol, guns and target practice (never a good idea). Cullie was shot in the head with a .45 caliber weapon by one of his friends who thought the gun wasn't loaded. An ambulance was called but the same friend stated he would take Cullie to the hospital instead of waiting for it.
Cullie never made it to the hospital. The friend dumped him in a rural wooded area and then returned to the party. It was so freezing cold outside -- one of the coldest days of the year in what was one of the coldest years on record.
It took deputies more than four hours to locate Cullie who was still alive at that point. He was airlifted to the trauma center where he lingered on life support for three days. He died at 3:00 p.m. on a Tuesday.
A vibrant young man taken much too soon.
2011: The shooter of Cullie Denney has recently pled guilty. He has been sentenced to 20 years -- 12 years in prison and 8 years probation.
