Married to John David Robertson on March 6, 1873. Mother of Dovey C., Laura May, Nellie Blanche, Harrison "Harry", Ethel, and Earl V. Robertson, two children that died very young and Mary Elizabeth (Robertson) Houpt.

Mrs. Robertson Succumbs Here, Age Ninety-Two

The death of Mrs. America L. Robertson at her residence here last night marked the passing of one of Sullivan's oldest and best loved ladies. She was ninety-two years of age and was highly respected throughout Sullivan County, being before ill health forced her retirement, an active devotee to church work in this city.

Mrs. Robertson succumbed last night at 11:30 o'clock at her home at 736 North Court Street, following an extended illness. A large group of close friends, neighbors and relatives were at her bedside when death occurred.

She was a life member of the First Christian Church and the oldest member upon the roll of the local church.

Born in the Paxton community* (see note below) January 27th, 1853, she lived her entire life span in this county and for more than half a century had resided at 736 North Court Street here. She was wed to the late John D. Robertson of Paxton and to them were born five daughters, all of whom survive.

Surviving are the daughters, Mrs. Laura Trego and Mrs. E.J. Fallowfield, both of Terre Haute, Mrs. Nellie Rogers of Farmersburg, Mrs. Ethel Hinkle and Mrs. Mary Houpt, both of Sullivan; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. One granddaughter, Miss Mary Lou Hinkle and great-granddaughter Miss Norma Sevier are employed in the Daily Times editorial and book-keeping departments.

The body was removed to the Billman Funeral Home where it was prepared for burial and where it now lies in state. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at two o'clock in the Billman funeral chapel with Rev. R.C. Mowery, pastor of the Terre Haute Maple Avenue Christian Church officiating. Interment will be made in the Center Ridge Cemetery.

*NOTE: America Lawson Walters Robertson was actually born in Kentucky and moved to Paxton, Sullivan Co., Indiana as a baby.

Old Resident Here Died Monday Evening

Mrs. America L. Robertson, 92 years old, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at her home here Monday evening. She was a life long and the oldest member of the Christian church here. She was a native of the Paxton community* (see note above) and was born January 27th, 1853, and had lived in this community all of her life. She was the widow of John D. Robertson

Five daughters survive, Mrs. Laura Trego and Mrs. Ed Fallowfield, both of Terre Haute, Mrs. Nellie Rogers of Farmersburg, Mrs. Ethel Hinkle and Mrs. Mary Houpt, both of Sullivan.

The funeral was held this afternoon at the Billman funeral home, being conducted by Rev. R.C. Mowery of the Maple Avenue Christian church of Terre Haute. Burial occurred at Center Ridge cemetery.

Last rites honoring the memory of Mrs. America L. Robertson, one of Sullivan's oldest residents, who died at her home here Monday evening, July 30th, at the age of 92 years, were conducted Thursday afternoon of last week in the chapel of the Billman Funeral Home.

Services were conducted by Rev. R.C. Mowry, pastor of the Terre Haute Maple Avenue Christian Church. A beautiful service of sacred hymns was sung by Mrs. Lula Baldwin and Mrs. Vermont McCoskey, accompanied by Mrs. Jeanette Wernz at the organ.

Pallbearers were L.O. Martin, Walter Asdell, Will Dickerson, Arthur Snavely, Gilbert Maxwell and W.D. Brown.

Interment was made in the Center Ridge Cemetery.
