Holiman picture to be given to Grant County Museum
Sheridan -

A picture of Warren and Millie Walters Holiman will be hung at the Grant County Museum at 9 a.m. Friday. This picture is believed to have been taken during the early 1800's is being donated by Ben Holiman.

The Honorable Warren Holiman (as he was addressed) was one of the pioneers descended from the Christopher Holliman line that was at Jamestown, Va., in 1620.

Warren and Millie Holiman came from Anson County, N. C., via Alabama to Arkansas in 1840. Warren Holiman served as a wagon master for the group headed for Arkansas.
He served as postmaster of Old Belfast and along with Col. Vance represented what is now Grant County in writing the constitution during Reconstruction after the Civil War. He also helped organize the Masonic Lodge at Old Belfast and served in the environmental development of Arkansas.

Warren and Millie Holiman were the parents of 10 children. Sarah Elizabeth died at age 12, Suzanna never married, Joshua married Lucretia Hogue; Barbara married Archibald Brumbelow; Elijah married Nancy Reynolds; John married Martha Poe; Tillman married Eveline Brumbelow; Jesse T. married Sarah Ashcraft; Mary married Ben Reynolds; and Nancy Jane married Robert Dougan.

A short presentation will be made honoring these early pioneers and their accomplishments. The purpose of this occasion is to have the picture in the museum for their descendants to see and to preserve history, according to a family spokesman.

Relatives of the Holiman and Walters families, along with the public are invited to attend, the spokesman said.
The Grant County Museum is located at 521 Shackleford Road at Sheridan.
