Samuel Harry "Sam" Knight Jr. was the first child and only son of Samuel Harry Knight and his wife Emma Pearl Stripling Knight. He was the grandson of James Jim W Knight and Mollie Rose Lewis Knight and John Daniel Stripling and Mary Zillah McCleskey or McCluskey Stripling. He married first "Living" and had one daughter, Cherie Lynn Knight Jones. He married second "Living" who had one child by a previous marriage and they remained friends throughout his life. He married "Living" and they had one child Robin Anne Knight Glover who died in 2007.

Sam attended the Paul Hayne School of Birmingham and joined the US Navy in 1944 completing his training at Camp Peary in Virginia - Home of the Seabees (see 1944 group Photo of him at Camp Peary) and was sent to California. During his time in the service he learned welding for pipe fitting and later worked on the building of several skyscrapers, including in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1950. After returning to Birmingham be joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local Number 91 on August 7th 1952. He worked in many states in the USA including Hawaii. more...
