Mr. James Leroy Lane, 73, 537 Dean Archer Rd., Jonesborough, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at North Side Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was a Bristol, VA, native and a son of the late Burl George and Argie Lou Hammond Lane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Lane; and a brother, Bill Lane.
Mr. Lane had retired in 1991 from Food Lion, where he was employed as a refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanic. He was a member of Unaka Rod and Gun Club. He was a Baptist.
Special thanks are given to the nurses and lab technicians at North Side Hospital and to Mickey and Emma Hammonds.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lane, of the home; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Lane, Maryville, Gary Wayne and Lorie Lane, Dickson, Chuck Lane, Jonesborough, and Danny and Julie Lane, Jonesborough; 4 daughters and son-in-law, Pam and Todd Morgan, Pensacola, FL, Rose Marie Abbott, Baltimore, MD, Michelle Linkous and fianc�, John Ferguson, both of Jonesborough, and Marie Bralley, Gray; 1 brother and sister-in-law, George Ed and Lorine Lane, Jonesborough; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mr. Lane will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Chestnut Grove Union Church with Mr. Rick Price and Mr. Mickey Hammonds officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 4:00-6:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Research Center, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis TN 38105.
