My♥Uncle Barney♥
WWII Veteran
Purple Heart Recipient
Son of the late John & Katherine Koper.
Beloved husband of Margie Green Koper.
Father of Wayne (Jeri) & Keith (Roma) Koper.
Uncle Barney & Auntie Margie owned & operated Koper's Bar in Fairgrove, MI.
I remember playing the pinball machine in the bar when we would visit. Uncle Barney would always fix it so I had unlimited play. Uncle Barney & my Daddy both enjoyed watching me play & teaching me.
During his wake at the bar, the pinball machine gave me, & only me, unlimted play. Aunt Margie said it was Uncle Barney, making sure he could watch me play on the pinball machine one more time.
Uncle Barney loved to play cards like the rest of the Kopers. He loved his beer, too, another thing the Kopers liked.
I think all of us remember Uncle Barney drinking his beer with a raw egg & hot sauce in it. (Must be another reason why I love hot sauce & hot stuff! LOL)
Uncle Barney was a WWII Veteran.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Uncle Barney had a permanent reminder of the war. He had a bullet in his spine from where he had been shot. The doctors could not & would not remove it because it would paralyze him.
Uncle Barney's gait was affected by the bullet in his spine but that's how it was so he accepted it.
He was another strong, stubborn, yet very loving & compassionate Koper man.
Another member of the Greatest Generation.
