Melon Leopold Irving was born December 3,1946 to the proud parents Roosevelt Leopold Sr.and the late Mattie Bluford Leopold of Mer Rouge,Louisiana. She departed this life Friday,September 8,2006.
Melon was born and raised on the family farm in a small community known as the Bonne Idee'. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was Baptize at the age of 11 in 1957 at Cherry Hill #2 Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Rev. L. Carr.There she served as president of the Junior Usher Board,a position she held with great pride.
Melon attended Johnson Elementary School and received her High School diploma from Union High School Class of 1965 of Mer Rouge,Louisiana. She Furthered her education by attending Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Melon felt she needed a change.In 1967 she moved to Los Angeles,California.There she meet and married her devoted husband Alfred Irving on March 30,1968 to this union three children was born Rickey,La'Sonya and Al Jerome.
Born and raised with a strong Baptist background,Melon felt she could not make it without her devotion to God.She joined Paradise Missionary Baptist Church and became a member of the Church Choir. Later she joined Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church where she remained dedicated, loyal and faithful until her death. She was a member of the Church Choir and Christian Woman Fellowship.
Melon was a devoted teacher to her students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.She taught at Manchester Elementary and then on to Leuzinger High School in the Centinela Valley School District in Lawndale,Ca. until her retirement in 2005.
She leave to cherish her precious and fond memories:her devoted husband Alfred Irving one daughter;La'Sonya(Dana)Lewis of Moreno Valley,Ca.;two sons,Rickey (Stacy)Irving and Al Jerome Irving of Hawthorne,Ca.;seven grandchildren Dont'e,Dayna,Diamond,Daja Lewis,Briana,Maurice,Jayla Irving;her father Roosevelt Leopold Sr of Mer Rouge,La.;six sister;Mary L.Pondexter and Ada L.(Ricky)George of Baltimore,MD.,Evon L.Buchanan and Golden L.(George)Dade of Baton Rouge,La.,Rosie L. Sander of Lawndale,Ca.Shirley L.(Antone)Beeks of Carson,Ca;two brothers Minister Roosevelt(Mildred)Leopold Jr.,Marshall(Wyletta)Leopold of Baton Rouge,La.one God sister Edna (Kenny)Moore of Bonita,La.three aunts;Lillie Bluford Wallace,Chrisanna Leopold of Los Angeles,Ca.and Selena Bluford Lewis of Houston,Tx.;two uncle Minister Willie Wallace and Jessie Harris of Los Angeles,Ca.; a host of special nieces,nephews,numerous relatives,friends,neighbors,and Church Members.
Preceding her in death her Mother Mattie Bluford Leopold and one niece Artrician Michelle George.

Your mother and I were there to welcome you to this cruel and hard world with open arms that love and shield you.We loved you and taught you right from wrong.We trained you God's Laws and made sure they were written in your heart.In June 1999 I was left standing alone but never did you disappoint me,you have given me happy memories,joyful moments and hope of the future with my loving grandchildrens which is part of you.To day my heart is heavy but I know you are not in pain but it's hard for daddy to say good bye.
