"Murl was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor and a temper to match her red hair! She was always the 'mean aunt'. As kids, we were scared of her, she would get mad, raise her voice, growl, spank, whatever it took to make you behave or be quiet. But as I grew up I saw through her. Murl wasn't mean, she just expected you to do what she told you to do, even if she wasn't your mother. She was easy to talk to when you had a problem. She wouldn't necessarily tell you what to do, she would ask questions and try to guide you in the appropriate direction. If you were too dense to follow the logic, then she would tell you what to do." - - by niece
In addition to her temper, Murl had a wonderful sense of humor who could be quite sneaky about pulling her practical jokes. Some of her hobbies were gardening, sewing, raising exotic chickens and crafting.
She was my "second mom" who provided me with ordinary every day experiences that weren't ordinary in my life. She gave advice in a manner a rebellious teenager wouldn't reject out of hand and taught me a wide variety of things: crafts, cooking, but most of all, life lessons I still use today.
Murl left this world far too young, but will be carried in our hearts forever.
