Baxter, an 8 year old Boxer died on the morning of June 23, 2008. He had to be euthanized by veterinarians after being shot in the morning of June 23, 2008. According to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report: Just hours before Baxter died, two burglars broke down the door of the home where he lived with his owner C. Coluzzi.
The suspects who are still at large, pointed handguns at Coluzzi and demanded her money. After Coluzzi refused, the burglars found her purse and took about $130, the report said.
When one burglar tried to grab Coluzzi, Baxter protected her by biting his leg and started attacking him, Coluzzi said. The burglar started hitting the dog and tried to shoot him, but eventually both suspects fled with the dog chasing them. As the dog ran down the street, one of the burglars shot it between its shoulder blades, severing its spine. The dog was put down after veterinarians determined it would have trouble breathing.
"This dog was the best dog I've ever known," a tearful Coluzzi said today.
