CD was a pure white German Shepherd. His original name was "Cloud Dancing."
This was written by CD's mom, Amanda Serafini ~
CD had spent last night in the emergency clinic and was diagnosed as having a splenic mass that ruptured and he was bleeding internally. The bleeding was gotten under control during the night last night but by the time I had gotten him to my regular vet he had gone into ventricular tachycardia. He was kept at the vets office on a lidocaine drip to try and reverse the ventricular tachycardia. At 7 p.m. this evening he was transferred back to the hospital to be monitored over night on the lidocaine drip by EKG and in the morning he would be seen by the cardiologist. As luck would have it the cardiologist was at the hospital when I brought him and do to his relatively stable condition and the chance the surgery now might be better tolerated that waiting the doctor stated he would be able to do the echocardiogram tonight with the idea that if there was no mass on the heart which is common with splenic masses to also have one on the heart do to the type of cancer and how it travels, the hospital would be able to do the operation to get the spleen removed and so permanently stop the bleeding problem. The doctor did not find a mass on the heart during the echocardiogram so he the did an ultrasound of the abdomen to see whASould probably go into cardiac arrest within the next 24 to 48 hours but I would at least be able to spend some more time with him. I asked would he be in pain and he said yes unfortunately he would be in pain that would probably get worse as the time went on because of the on and off bleeding in the abdomen. CD was already uncomfortable when I brought him in the idea that it would get worse and there was nothing I could do for his pain led me to make the only conclusion that would allow him to be comfortable and in no more pain. So at 10 p.m. this evening CD was put to sleep. At least now I know he won't suffer and he won't be in any pain anymore let alone a pain that would be just be getting worse so I could have more of a quantity of time, because there would have been no quality for him and therefore me. I am sure going to miss my puppy but I hope he will be playing and enjoying lots of squirrels in heaven. I sure will miss him, he was a wonderful friend and faithful companion. I have enclosed a few pictures of CD that were the most recent of him at his new found favorite place to be... Thatcher Park.
I love you buddy and you will be dearly missed.
