Our beautiful baby boy Rottweiler was only with us a very short five years, a trip to the vets discovered a tumour on his leg and we had to do the right thing for our big lad and let him go.
We had never had a Rottweiler before and brought him for my son, but Dude was always a mummy's boy!
He was a HUGE big boned Rottweiler one of the biggest we have ever seen. We loved him from the start.
Very clever dog could go to the toilet on Command, do as as he was told, was an angel just didn't like black dogs, cats or strangers.
As with most big dogs he loved his food it was a challenge to get past him with food in your hands and if he was in the way laid down some place you had to step over him because he wasn't moving!
We have two little girl Yorkshire Terriers called Pepsi and her daughter Jovi both who do tricks; dancing, walking on two legs backwards and forwards, playing dead so on. When we were playing with the dogs the two girls would do their thing and when we came to Dude we would say "And what can Dude do" and he would sit down, look at us with those big beautiful dark eyes of his and give us a big heavy paw and a sloppy grin.
He would think it the greatest trick in the World to do much better than the girls, it used to make us laugh so much, it was so funny!
When the vet called and said it was bad news I asked if me and my husband Bob could be there when he was put to sleep.
When we got there he was in a cage and because he was such a big dog it seemed much too small for him.
When he saw us his eyes lit up he looked so pleased to see us both it broke our hearts.
I asked if we could take him for a little walk in the gardens, so we took him for his last walk. Both my husband and I were crying we loved him so much.
It was very strange Dude was all for his Daddy and kept looking at him as if to say "Come on dad be strong and do the right thing for me I'm tired and mum can't cope".
The vet called us it was time, my husband broke down and couldn't come into the room with us he said "I can't walk him to it, I just can't".
I took our big lad and he laid on my feet just like he always did nearly crushing them.
Just before the vet gave him the needle he looked towards the door as if to say "Where's my dad?" , I was constantly telling him how much he was loved and crying over and over again.
He slowly closed his eyes and with one great big sigh was gone it was awfully sad but a comfort to know that my brave boy would not feel anymore pain.
After the vet tried to hug me, I know it's not the vets fault but how can you hug someone who has just killed your baby?
I shook hands and ran out of the door to my husband who was totally broken and for many months would not even drive past the road where the vets was.
Since his death there is a HUGE hole in our hearts and
even now it always makes me feel really sad when I think of what he would be up to if he was still with us.
Very much missed.
Thank you so much to everyone who leaves a flower/message for our baby, We visit him every day and read every message.
I cry buckets when I read them but that's OK I will always be the same, it is really nice to know others care so much to leave a little something for our Dude. Love you all.xxx
***We can't thank Jessica enough for sponsoring our beloved baby Dude and allowing me to add more pictures of our "Big Lad". Thank you sweet lady for your kindness we are truly blessed***
