Leo R. "Mutt" Hagerman,
He was born Jan. 16, 1916, on a farm near Vinland, the son of Franklin and Ella Deay Hagerman. He grew up in the Vinland area, attended Harmony rural school and graduated from Vinland High School in 1934.
After graduation Mr. Hagerman farmed with his family. In 1940 he purchased his own farm northeast of Vinland and was a farmer and stockman there for more than 54 years. He also owned and operated a dairy there until 1989.
Mr. Hagerman was a former member of the Vinland School Board, enjoyed bluegrass music and played the mandolin. He and his wife played at local churches and bluegrass festivals.
He married Fern Randel on April 24, 1940, in Lawrence.
Mr. Hagerman died Sunday, May 29, 1994, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Vinland — Services for Leo R. "Mutt" Hagerman, 78, of the rural Vinland area, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin, with the Rev. David Olmstead officiating. Burial will be in Vinland Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Robert, of Lawrence, Rex, of the home; a brother, Max, St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Bernice Everts, Dallas, Tex., Roselea Channel, St. Louis, Mo., and Vernell Randel, Lawrence; a granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
