Mary Mowrer, 82, Baldwin, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin with the Rev. Ralph Ruhlen officiating. Burial will be in Prairie City Cemetery southwest of Baldwin.
Mrs. Mowrer died Monday, Nov. 16, 1992, at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
She was born July 1, 1910, in Harris, Mo., to Delbert Lee and Audie May Egelston Sandefur.
She was raised in Harris and graduated from the high school there. She was valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Mowrer attended the University of Missouri at Columbia.
She taught school in Putnam County, Mo. She then moved to Kansas City, Kan., and lived there for almost 12 years before moving to the Baldwin area in 1948. She lived southwest of Baldwin in the Prairie City area before moving into Baldwin several years ago.
She was a member of the Ives Chapel United Methodist Church, Rebecca Lodge, Royal Neighbors, a board member of the Santa Fe Historical Society and served on the Maple Leaf Festival Board for many years.
Mrs. Mowrer worked at the Baldwin Cafe and Baldwin Dry Goods for more than 20 years. She also helped form and managed the Baldwin Senior Center for 13 years before retiring in 1991.
She married C. Newell Mowrer on April 22, 1929, in Columbia, Mo. He died March 29, 1973.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeneen York, Lenexa, and Sherry Anne Newell, Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Susan Ryan, Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
