Death: May 18, 2004
Anbar, Iraq

Pfc. Carey of Prince George, Virginia walked into an Army recruiting office when he was 17. The Army recruiter wasn't there when Carey and his grandfather stopped by, so they checked next door with the Marine recruiting office. Michael was a Marine combat engineer serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is survived by his wife, Heather and his new daughter, Mia who was born just days before he was killed. His father, William and stepmother, Darlene, mother, Sandra and stepfather, Robert, two brothers, Kristopher, Travis, and one sister, Tanda, his grandmothers, Laura Croom, Elsie Smith, and Elizabeth Irving, and grandfather, Emory Irving. Michael died when he apparently fell into a canal of the Euphrates River while searching for makeshift bombs in a canal at age 20.
