Elisabeth was, arguably, the daughter of Hans Michael & Elisabeth Sheely (a.k.a. "Schule"). Father Hans Michael was reportedly born in Wurtemburg, Germany, and later immigrated to Pennsylvania. Elisabeth's grave is reputed to be the oldest burial at Hill Cemetery and the first "Christian" burial in Concord Township, Delaware County, OH. Some reports indicate that local Indians were in attendance at the burial -- being curious regarding the peculiar "white" custom of burial in the ground. About 1750 Elisabeth Sheely married Joseph Hill in Frederick County, VA, and the couple subsequently moved to Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County, PA. Joseph Hill died in Pennsylvania and, at age 81, Elisabeth was brought to Delaware County, OH, by her sons who homesteaded Concord Township. One of Elisabeth's sons, Stephen Hill, was a veteran of the American Revolution and is also buried at Hill Cemetery. The cemetery was created from an acre of ground set aside by Stephen Hill for the purpose of burial -- &, apparently, the first person he buried there was his 93-year-old mother.
