Services for pioneer resident, Alva Lee Reed 87, were conducted by the Reverend Harley Pulis at the Mortimore Chapel Tuesday, February 24, 1958 at 2 p.m. Mr. Reed died at the Central Hotel on February 20.
Mr. Reed was born on April 28, 1871 in Ohio, the son of Mr. Tom Reed and Electa (Robertson) Reed. In 1894 he was married to Viola Lola Combs in Yankton, South Dakota. She preceeded him in death. Alva Reed was a retired rancher and sheepherder and had been a resident of Thermopolis for approximately 63 years.
He is survived by four sons: Clemons O. Reed of Wichita, Kansas; Dewey Reed of San Diego, California; Ora Reed of Lucerne; and three daughters; Mrs Fern Herbst of Ocean Beach, California; Mrs. Thelma Mason of San Diego, California; and Edna Sisson of Seattle, Washington.He was preceeded in death by a daughter Pearl Cooper; and a daughter Alice Glenn Reed (age 17) Also a grandson Sgt. Loren D. Reed of Wichita, Kansas (he was killed in the Korean war)
Mrs. Virginia Mortimore sang "In the Garden" and "Nearer My God to Thee" Pallbearers were Frank Vannoy, Jacob George Mueller, jr. Roy Rash, Jerry Bunch, R.W. Jones and James L. Nicholas Sr.
Interment was at the Riverside Cenetery.
