Spencer David Lonnie Carr, entered eternal life at his home in Center Line, Michigan, on February 21, 2008. Spencer was unable to escape a tragic early morning fire inside his wood-frame 2-story home. He was born in Royal Oak on January 29, 2000. Spencer was 8 years old.
Spencer was a friendly little boy who loved dinosaurs, video games, nature, and Pokemon. He was a second grade student at Peck Elementary School in Warren, in the Center Line School District.
The sidewalk where Spencer used to play became a memorial in a tribute to his life. Stuffed animals, cards, balloons, and Detroit Tigers' memorabilia decorated the fence that was put up in front of the charred remains of the home. The fence included the name "Spencer Carr" spelled out with Styrofoam cups.
Spencer is survived by his parents, David and Nola Carr; sister, Tanya Marie Carr; grandparents Lonnie and Geneva Liford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Kevin and Kathryn Carr.

On October 6, 2008, the Peck School family paid tribute to Spencer Carr by dedicating a sapling and two benches in his name at the school. The benches, purchased by the school's Parent Teacher Club, were installed near the playground. The tree, a gift from the Father Murray Nursing Center in Center Line, decorates the front lawn of the school with an attached plaque that reads "In Memory of Spencer Carr ~ Always In Our Hearts." Peck's third-graders added a special touch to the tree when they placed colorful rocks they had painted in art class around it as a border. Some wrote "Dear Spencer" on theirs, while others included messages like "nice" and "joyful" to remember their friend. Tears of sadness turned to giggles at the end of the ceremony when everyone blew soap bubbles up to Heaven to their little Angel Friend, Spencer Carr.
On Spencer's prayer card ~
~In memory of Spencer Carr~
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The Lord replied, "My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
~Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may Your perpetual light shine upon him.~
