Ida Bell(e) Gilliam Beene
Birth: Aug. 12, 1878
Johnson County
Texas, USA
Death: Nov. 19, 1918
Freestone County
Texas, USA

Ida was the daughter of James and Frances Ann (Beene) Gilliam and the twin sister of Prudence (Prudie) Gilliam Hancock.
Marriage to David Foster: November 25, 1897.
Marriage to W. O. Beene: February 4, 1909.

Inscriptions: "Mother of ten."
"Many daughters have done virtuously but thou excelest them all." (Prov. 31:29)

Her first husband was David Foster, whom she married in 1897. They had five children (Ethel, Bertha, Herman, Nema, and Drue). Sadly, David died in 1905, and shortly after that, Herman and Nema both died. (It is obvious that she kept Herman and Nema alive in her heart, though; they are included among her ten children.)

Ida married William Obediah "Obie" Beene in 1909 (*exactly* three years after Obie's first wife died). Ida and Obie had five more children: Ida Mae, Lula Ruth, Addie Arizona, Nina Lorene (named so because she was the ninth child of each parent!) and Aaron Obediah (my grandpa).

In late 1918, the Spanish Influenza hit the area where the Beene family lived. Many caught the illness, including Obie and a few of their children. Ida did her best to nurse her husband and children back to health, with help from the doctor, of course. By November, the illness seemed to be leaving the area. Fewer people were getting sick. However, in mid-November, Ida suddenly fell very ill with the flu. Unfortunately, the doctor caught it at the same time! There was no one available to give Ida the medical attention she needed, and she succumbed to the virus on November 19, 1918, the day her daughter Addie turned six years old.

Ida's life was short and full of troubles, but she's lived on in her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, though she didn't live to see a single one of them.

She is buried next to her first husband, David Foster, and son, Drue Monroe Foster. It is possible that Nema and Herman Foster are buried with her and David (there are a few unidentifiable markers surrounding their graves).

Daughter: Ethel Mae Foster Kindon.
