Son of Captain John Clarke. Both father and son fought in the Revolutionary War. John Clarke, Jr. enlisted in Amherst County, Virginia in 1780. He served three months in Captain Christian's Company, Colonel James Barnett's Virginia Regiment. In 1781, he served three months in Captain James Dillard's Company, Colonel Lynch's Virginia Regiment. He received a pension for his services.
He married Anna Whitten on May 17, 1791 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. They had a large family: Martha Patsy; James; David; Mary Polly; Sarah Sally; Elizabeth; Anna; Jemimah.
He farmed in Lincoln and Washington County, Kentucky.
