As a young man, William Roy Finnell sailed in Teddy Roosevelt's famous Great White Fleet, 1907-1909, aboard the ship USS Virginia.
After his hitch in the military, he returned to Missouri, married 16-year old Lilah May Vance of southern Chariton County, and never left home again.
He first farmed land given to him by his father, Jasper Newton Finnell. Later, he rented the old Woods place on State Route VV and then settled on his 124-acre farm, once owned by the Young family, on State Route KK, south of Asbury

--- Roy Finnell, 75, Keytesville, died last night at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.
He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Lela Mae Vance; five daughters, Mrs. Charles Maddox, San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Bob Silvn and Mrs. Edward Hutchinson, Kansas City, Mrs. Elbert Bennett, Pierce, Neb.; and Mrs. Raymond Cox, Keytesville; one son, Dr. Roy J. Finnell, Independence; two sisters, Mrs. Jim Cook, and Mrs. Anna Spence, Salisbury, and nine grandchildren.
The body will be brought to the Garnett Funeral Home in Keytesville today. The funeral arrangements are pending.
